Looking for a great local event this summer? Here are some of our favorites:
Concord Criterium, August 6th. This year marks the 36th edition of this New England classic. A fast and technical course around Concord's White Park. A great road bike race as well as a great place for families to watch.
Hampshire 100, August 20th and 21st. One of the premier races on the NUE circuit, a true mountain bikers endurance course. Short track, cyclocross, and running races on Saturday. 50k and 100k running races Sunday as well as 50k, 100k, and 100 mile MTB races.
Kearsarge Hill Climb, August 27th. 8 mile climb from the town of Warner to the top of Mt. Kearsarge. The final 3.5 miles averages 8.7% and gains 1,738'.
Kearsarge Klassic Dirt Road Century and Randonee, September 10th. The Kearsarge Klassic Dirt Road Randonee is a gravel road bike ride in central New Hampshire that winds around Mt. Kearsarge, Ragged Mountain, and the southern ridge line of Mt. Cardigan. The signature 106 miles dirt century has nearly 9,000 feet of climbing. There is also a 90 mile route, a 61 mile route, and a 25 mile recreational route. Each one of the routes pass properties protected by the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust.
Pedaling for Payson, September 17th. Pedaling for Payson is a cycling fundraiser to benefit Concord Hospital Payson Center for Cancer Care. Come and enjoy our mountain bike ride, or one of our stunningly scenic 16-, 30-, 51-, 77- and 100-mile road rides. Enjoy a delicious barbecue and post-ride celebration and wonderful rest stops along the way.
GSW Seacoast Century, September 24th and 25th. A classic New England event and a great first century ride. The best part? You can choose which day you'd like to ride! The route follows the New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine coastline with some short scenic inland loops. It includes historic Portsmouth, State Parks, the Nubble Lighthouse, harbor views and a chance to take a dip in the ocean. Options include a full, metric, half or quarter century. All rides begin and end at Hampton Beach State Park.
We will be closed this upcoming Monday, July 4th, for the holiday. We will be open Saturday 9-6 and Sunday 12-5.
Enjoy some long rides and stay safe!
Go big this summer and bite off more than you can chew. Racing? Bikepacking? A century ride? A harder trail? There are so many places to ride but it's easy to ride the same roads and trails over and over. Habits are hard to break, right? Long days are the perfect time to expand your riding, giving you plenty of time to roam. Get in touch and let us know what your plans are, we love to share any info we have that can help.
Bring some extra tubes, pack a lunch, and get the maps out. Remember:

I've been looking for a new XC/All around tire and had read and heard good things about the Bontrager XR2 (Quadsworth and others). I've got about 250 mostly offroad miles on these and have a good idea of what they are all about. I've been running a 2.35 XR2 up front with a 2.2 XR1 in the back.
First of all in importance for an XC tire is how fast does it roll? This thing is super fast. Even feels fast on pavement, which is pretty tough for a knobby, though the center knobs are low. Second, how does it turn? It's great in everything but deep mud (to be expected). Stable, very predictable, with a great, round shape. I've pushed it in sand, on roots, hero dirt, some mud, and rocks both wet and loose. This thing has been like velcro.
Lastly, how does it feel? The Team Issue is super supple, feels like a tubular for MTB. The sidewall is holding up really well while not feeling stiff or dead at all. It's comfortable and inspires confidence in almost all conditions.
250 miles in and besides being dirty the tread looks brand new. Seems to be holding up much better than some of it's racing competitors, while being just as grippy and fast. Pairing the XR2 in front with the lower profile, faster rolling XR1 in back has been great. The XR1 rolls crazy fast and has surprising grip. I'm very excited to get some more big off-road miles on these.
If you're trying to find a fast all-around XC tire this is definitely one to consider.
This is unfortunately not an uncommon thing to find on the trails.
Last year at Franklin Falls (Sniper trail), someone had strung up webbing across the trail. It was chest height and just following a corner. I'd never ridden the trail so was looking pretty far ahead, if I hadn't been it would have been a real nasty surprise.
There is no excuse for this sort of behavior. Multi-use trails are meant to be shared. While we may not share a particular user groups passion for their sport it's obvious that we shouldn't try to make their experience worse. This brings to memory the numerous incidences of trail sabotage that have been going on in west coast communities for years. We've been fortunately spared from most of this behavior.
In light of this happening just an hour or so away, please remember to be careful out there. Keep your eyes up, just because you have a trail memorized doesn't mean it's not different this time.
Full carbon wheelsets usually aren't the best place to look for value. Goes back to the famous axiom of "light, strong, or cheap: pick two". Giant has managed to buck the trend with their SLR 1 Aero wheelset though.
Full carbon, 1700 grams per set, 23mm wide, 55mm rim profile, and tubeless ready. All for $1200. The hubs are amazingly smooth, nice, and simple. The wheels are UCI and ITU compliant and the minimalist graphics are spot on. We've put them on road and tri bikes and they're a great upgrade for the money.
Giant has arguably more carbon experience than anyone in the game at this point and it really shows in these rims. Stiff, light, and with a great ride quality. If you're in the market for a fast new set of wheels for your bike these should be on your short list.
Pat's Peak annual Mountain Bike Festival is coming up. This is one of our favorite events of the year and one that we're really proud to be a part of.
Two days of 6/12/24 hour racing(team and individual), downhill, and cross country racing. All ages and all categories. These courses have had a lot of work done in the last few years to make them as perfect as possible and they are awesome.
Registration is available at bikereg.com
We hope we see you there.
Our 8th Concord Area Bike Swap was a huge success!
Huge thanks to every volunteer who came to help us, every person who put up a sign, and everyone who came and got themselves a new bike.
This was an amazing fundraiser for the Central New Hampshire Bicycling Coalition and Recycled Cycles. We love supporting such great groups.
Thanks again, we couldn't do this without the great support of the community.
